So I decided to start my blog with one of the anime genres I admire the most. Romance!!!! Here's a list of 5 heartwarming and heartbreaking anime movies/series. This isn't the only list I plan on making so if your favourite isn't here, don't worry about it. Don't forget to leave a comment!
5. KIMI NI TODOKE (FROM ME TO YOU)

This story is centered around a girl named Kuronuma Sawako who is nicknamed Sadako (ghost girl from "The Ring") by her classmates because of her scary face and demeanor. She greatly admires Kazehaya-kun from afar, he is "100% refreshing" and is able to draw in people with his personality. Unlike her facial expressions, she yearns to make friends and live as a normal student. Gradually, she starts to affect those around her, including Kazehaya-kun... ( Synopsis from http://kiminitodoke.wikia.com)
This series has two seasons. The first with 25 episodes and the second with 12. It's a light-hearted anime series that will leave you laughing and smiling suggestively like an idiot for weeks.

4. HOTARUBI NO MORI E ( INTO THE FOREST OF THE FIREFLIES' LIGHT)

Intrigued by the tale of a mountain god, six-year-old Hotaru Takegawa loses her way in the ancient forest while visiting her uncle. Exhausted and desperate for help, Hotaru is thrilled to find a masked forest spirit named Gin. She learns the hard way that she should not touch the boy, or he would disappear. In spite of this, Gin leads Hotaru out of the forest and warns her never to return when she promises to come again with a gift.
Paying no heed to his cautionary words, and despite being separated by both distance and planes of existence, Hotaru and Gin become close friends as she visits him every summer. However, their relationship and resolve are put to the test, when romantic feelings conflict with the one and only rule.
Based on Yuki Midorikawa's manga of the same name, Hotarubi no Mori e is a tale of friendship and compromise of two people who should never have crossed paths, as their lives become hopelessly intertwined. ( Synopsis from https://myanimelist.net)
This is a short anime movie of about 45 minutes adapted from a oneshot. I'll have to admit, I cried during this movie. It really touched me in ways I can't describe. I promise you won't regret giving this one a try.
3. AO HARU RIDE (BLUE SPRING RIDE)

While most girls desire popularity among boys, Futaba Yoshioka wants the exact opposite. After attracting many admirers back in middle school which resulted in her being shunned by her female classmates, she decided that high school will be her chance to revamp her image. Therefore, she starts acting unfeminine and indifferent to boys, allowing her to make some “friends” along the way.
Little does Futaba know, her life will take another drastic turn when her first love, Kou Mabuchi, returns after his sudden disappearance years ago in middle school. Despite his extended absence, the fond memories they shared together still linger in her mind, and she wishes to return to those days. But she realizes that the sweet, gentle boy of the past has completely vanished, and in his place stands someone cold and pessimistic. While he admits that her feelings for him back then were mutual, he warns that they can never go back to the past, as everything, including him, has changed.
Ao Haru Ride follows Futaba as she searches for true love and friendship, all while trying her best to stay true to herself. (Synopsis from https://myanimelist.net)
This series had me from the moment I started watching it. It's funny, heartwarming and unexpected. It had me sitting at the edge of my seat week by week as I waited for a new episode. It's no wonder it made it onto my top 5.

2. KIMI NO NA WA (YOUR NAME)

Mitsuha Miyamizu, a high school girl, yearns to live the life of a boy in the bustling city of Tokyo—a dream that stands in stark contrast to her present life in the countryside. Meanwhile in the city, Taki Tachibana lives a busy life as a high school student while juggling his part-time job and hopes for a future in architecture.
One day, Mitsuha awakens in a room that is not her own and suddenly finds herself living the dream life in Tokyo—but in Taki's body! Elsewhere, Taki finds himself living Mitsuha's life in the humble countryside. In pursuit of an answer to this strange phenomenon, they begin to search for one another.
Kimi no Na wa. revolves around Mitsuha and Taki's actions, which begin to have a dramatic impact on each other's lives, weaving them into a fabric held together by fate and circumstance. ( Synopsis from https://myanimelist.net)
Now when I read that this movie was about switching bodies, I wasn't really interested in watching it. And I'm glad that something convinced me to watch it anyways, because this movie kept me intrigued non-stop. There wasn't a single boring moment, and I can't even count the number of times I laughed and cried. This is a must watch.

1. SHIGATSU WA KIMI NO USO (YOUR LIE IN APRIL)

Music accompanies the path of the human metronome, the prodigious pianist Kousei Arima. But after the passing of his mother, Saki Arima, Kousei falls into a downward spiral, rendering him unable to hear the sound of his own piano.
Two years later, Kousei still avoids the piano, leaving behind his admirers and rivals, and lives a colorless life alongside his friends Tsubaki Sawabe and Ryouta Watari. However, everything changes when he meets a beautiful violinist, Kaori Miyazono, who stirs up his world and sets him on a journey to face music again.
Based on the manga series of the same name, Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso approaches the story of Kousei's recovery as he discovers that music is more than playing each note perfectly, and a single melody can bring in the fresh spring air of April. (Synopsis from https://myanimelist.net)
I have absolutely no words for this series. Just no words. I loved this series so much that everyday for about 3 weeks, I would re-watch the final episode and cry when I got back home.
Even now, whenever I think of the series, multiple onion-cutting ninjas just seem to appear. I'ts a series I'll never be able to forget. At first I wasn't all that into it, I was gonna stop at some point. But I don't know when it happened. I found myself waiting all week for the next episode to come out, and that's why it's my number 1.

So here ends my list and my first blog post. I hope you enjoyed reading. Don't forget to leave a comment and express how you felt. xoxo
